Antigua is an island in the Leeward Islands of the West Indies. It was used as a base of operations for the West Indies, but, as its location is leeward of the remainder of the West Indies, ships on missions for other parts of the Caribbean would travel directly there rather than calling at Antigua first. The base of operations was in a harbour known today as English Harbor.
In HMS Renown sailed directly to Santo Domingo (later, Dominican Republic) to complete its mission before calling at Antigua.
