HMS Buckler, Captain James Edward Cogshill commanding, was a 28-gun frigate stationed at Kingston, on the Jamaica Station, at the time HMS Renown arrived after she captured the gun batteries and three prizes at Scotchman's Bay.
Captain Cogshill was assigned to take command pro tempore of Renown by Sir Richard Lambert, Vice Admiral of the Blue, KB.
