Leeway Angle

Diagram showing vessel heading, wind direction, and leeway angle.

Leeway is a term used for the sideways drift of a vessel relative to its heading due to the wind. If the course is north and the wind is to the east, the vessel will experience a drift, or leeway, to the east.
