Thomas à Beckett Church is a cathedral in Portsmouth, Hampshire, England. Construction was begun about 1180, named after Thomas à Becket, Archbishop of Canterbury who was murdered in 1170 at Canterbury Cathedral .
It was here that Hornblower, after being confirmed as Commander and given command of HMS Hotspur, was married to Maria Mason. After the ceremony, Bush lined both sides of the exit with hands from Hotspur to honour Hornblower by raising swords forming an archway for the couple to walk to the post-chaise. After the Hornblowers entered the carriage, the "Hotspurs" pulled the post-chaise to The George for their reception.
