Toulon is a city on the Mediterranean coast of France. Toulon was a royalist city during the French Revolution. In 1793, Toulon requested the assistance of Spain and England. 13,000 British, Neopolitan, Piedmontese, and Spanish troops landed to aid the royalists. Stationed at Toulon were some 26 ships of the line, approximately one-third of those available to France.
A young captain of the French forces, Napoleon Boneparte was able to put together artillery and took the city.
